The process

We'll walk you through the process, showcasing the simplicity and creativity behind every piece you make with Casual Woodworking.

  • START

When you receive your board, the fun begins. Simply pop out the pre-cut pieces. If you notice any small fuzzy edges, gently knock them off. The next step is gluing the rings together to form the initial shape of your bowl. You can use a hose clamp or rubber bands to hold the rings tightly and flat while the glue dries, ensuring a strong and even bond.

  • ASSEMBLY

Once your four rings are cured, sand off any excess glue and high spots. This can be achieved in various ways: using sandpaper on a flat surface, a large sanding disk on a lathe, or a drum sander. Please note, do not use a planer for this step. After the rings are flat, glue them in a stack, from the smallest ring to the largest. Make sure the recess where the chuck will expand into is facing the outside of the bowl. Also, try to center each ring to the next, staggering the joints for added strength and visual appeal. Glue them together in the desired bowl shape using clamps or a heavy weight until fully cured.

Turning and finishing with ease

After the glue has thoroughly dried, it's time to use your lathe to bring your project to life. This is where you can have fun and shape your finished piece. Our unique process makes it easy to create beautiful designs by removing the need for extra jigs and saws, simplifying the entire experience. You can turn your piece with either traditional woodworking tools or carbide tools, giving you flexibility in your crafting approach.

"The simplicity of their process makes woodworking accessible to everyone. I love how easy it is to create unique pieces!"
